After telling me I needed a new rack and pinion for my Lexus, I made the mistake of allowing a local cut-rate tire shop replace it. This was the beginning of nearly two years of frustration, in which a whole slew of local garages misdiagnosed the problem. The rack was subsequently replaced 2 more times, then the pump, then a P/S pressure control solenoid, before every other mechanic I brought the car to finally just gave up. The dealership was willing to take a crack at it, at an estimated cost of over $3K to unnecessarily replace the rack for a 4th time (but conceded that it might turn out to the same solenoid I had also had replaced at another shop, in which case it would still cost over $2000 to repair the issue). Then, THANK GOD (and I'm not even a religious person), I finally brought it to American European Autos. They properly diagnosed the problem no other mechanic could, and for a small fraction of what the dealership was going to charge me (initial diagnosis + less than 1 hour additional labor + $8 in shop parts, soldered a pinched cable back together, and Problem Finally Fixed!! The confluence of Competency & Honesty appears to be hard to find these days, but look no further. If you have not had the pleasure of dealing with Tibor & his Crew, I Highly recommend that you do!!!
